Preparing for a Florentine Thanksgiving!

Planning on cooking a Thanksgiving meal in Florence with your fellow classmates? Need some tips on where to find a few ingredients for your recipes? Here are some ideas.

Primo posto Mercato Centrale or also known as Mercato di San Lorenzo located between via dell’Ariento, via Sant’Antonino, via Panicale, and Piazza del Mercato Centrale. It closes at 2pm, but you will find there all the fresh vegetables, poultry, spices, & wine you will need for your Thanksgiving dinner.

While you are going through your grocery list, take a break! Mercato Centrale is a GREAT spot to relax for a bit and grab a quick bite! One of our recommendations is a small yet busy seafood spot where they make the best Italian Fish & Chips for only 6 euros! How do you find them? They will be the stall with the music blasting while singing and giving away complimentary wine to anyone who is waiting in line for their food! Buon Appetito!

Secondo posto Head over to any 99 cent store around Florence. They have any size disposable pan you might need for your delicious dishes as well as utensils, cups, candles, plates, etc… And you can’t beat the price!

Terzo Posto Right next to the Marist-LdM office you can find the VVM Market. There you will find anything from Sriracha to Mexican salsa! But for Thanksgiving they typically sell canned pumpkin, yams, condensed and sweetened milk, vanilla, brown sugar, brownie and cookie mixes.

Another place to go for rare items in the city is the Old England Stores on Via Vecchietti, 28. They will also have similar items plus delicacies from England, such as tea, chocolate and more!

Hope this information will help you collect the ingredients needed for your Florentine Thanksgiving!
