Metamorphosis is a series of painting done by Alexander Marco Salazar, a Marist Italy student here in Florence. The exhibition opened on Thursday, 6th of March and it is located in Piazza Piattellina, 9 at Hemingway bar.
Metamorphosis is a series in which Salazar examines the relationship between time, identity and inner reality. Change is an inevitable component our lives. We constantly adapt and morph to expectations and conditions in a given environment. In his attempt to define identity and inner reality, Salazar creates portraits of people over a time-lapse.
To create such an effect he starts his painting process by taking a blurred photo of an individual using a long-exposure time, and then references the photo while painting. We cannot define the entirety of ourselves in one specific moment in time. From the day we are born until the day we die, we are in constant transformation. Displaying a lengthened time range provides a more accurate approach to capturing our essences.
The exhibition will be open for other two month and it is worth going to see. Not only are the paintings great and should be seen live but also Hemingway bar is a great place to hang out. Hemingway is located on the other side of the Arno near Santo Spirito and it is famous for their chocolate and cakes.
So one afternoon why don’t you go on by and have some chocolate while admiring great work from a young and talented artist.
